I’m a writer, not a designer. Ignore cringey spacing, the character count is correct!

Day One

Scenario: A traveler is in an airport waiting for the last leg of a flight home when their flight gets abruptly canceled due to bad weather. Challenge: Write a message from the airline app notifying them of the cancellation and what they need to do next. Headline: 45 characters
Body: 175 characters max Button(s): 25 characters max

Day Two

Scenario: A user is a working parent, and a big sports fan, in the midst of their favorite sports season who can no longer attend games. Challenge: Write a promotional screen for an app that lets a user choose teams, sends game reminders, real-time score updates and highlight videos. Constraints: Headline 40 char, Body 175 char, Button 25 char max. Final Headline: 37, Body 171, Button 13.

Day Three

Scenario: The user entered the wrong email address to sign in to their account. Challenge: Tell the user to enter the right email. 40 characters max

I kept the tone dry and simple for this error, with a slightly more casual wording on “Didn’t Catch That” for younger-user-focused apps.

Day Four

Scenario: A user is in their favorite supermarket. They open the supermarket’s app on their phone to see what’s on sale and are greeted by a promotion.Challenge: Write a promotional home screen for a subscription service that delivers groceries to the user once-a-month for a flat fee. Headline 45 Char, Body 175 Char, Button(s) 25 char max.

Two different body text options- they would not be sharing the same screen.
I would have liked a font to better match Ralphs friendly brand, but it wasn’t available on Figma.

Day Five

Scenario: The user works in graphic design. While critiquing a design in a mobile app, their phone abruptly turns off. When they restart the phone, they reopen the app. Challenge: Write a message that the user will read immediately upon opening the app. What do they need to know? What steps (if any) do they need to take to recover their content? What if they can’t recover the content? Headline: 40 characters max, Body: 140 char max, Button(s): 20 char max

Direct tone. I kept it personable due to the artistic nature of Graphic Design.
I loosened the tone even more here for a brand secure that its users will take a shut-down in stride. It also implies if the company isn’t worried, you don’t need to be either.
If data is lost, the tone must reflect the severity of the mistake.

Day Six

Scenario: It’s Monday. A user has just gotten into their car to drive to work. They plug their phone into the car and start driving. Challenge: How would you let the user know there’s a fire happening in a nearby town that is causing road closures? The effect on their commute is unknown, but there is a definite danger if the fire gets closer. How do you communicate this to them? When? Headline 30 characters max, Body 45 characters max.

I would request this notification open as soon as the phone connects to a car’s OS.

Day Seven

Scenario: A sports fan is at a wedding while their favorite team is playing against their arch-rivals. Their team scores.Challenge: How would you, quickly, let the sports fan know about the latest play, the current score, and the key players? Headline: 30 Char max, 45 Char max.

Not being a sports fan myself, I figure the score is key info you need to be able to glance at out of the corner of your eye at a wedding. TDs are important, but everyone wants to know a flag on the play, too, and where they are in the game, time-wise. Can you catch the end by the time the ceremony is over?!? Yes, I know Braves and Cubs are BB- just want to annoy some fans heheh.
